School Mass: Sunday next, 17th April, at 10am in Nicker Church. All welcome.

2nd class children are asked to attend in preparation for their First Holy Communion

Church Practice this Thursday 14th April for Choir (3rd – 6th classes and 2nd class) 1.40pm- 2.40pm

 

Hurling Trials:  We are delighted to be sending four 6th class boys to the Mackey Cup Hurling Trials this Thursday evening in Boher GAA Field at 3.30pm – Best of luck Conor, David, Kilian and Michael!

 

After-School Hurling: Training 3-4pm every Thursday starting on Thursday 21st April for boys and girls 3rd – 6th classes. Helmets must be worn.

 

P.E. There are two more swimming lessons left, Tuesday 19th & 26th April.

 

PE day is Wednesdays (School navy tracksuit please)

All classes have use of the new Astro-turf pitch on Wednesday afternoons for Games (Hurling & Football) with GAA coach, Damien Wallace.

  • If any children in Mrs. Fletcher’s class have hurleys and helmets they can bring them in on Wednesdays.

 

1916 Commemoration:  On Saturday 16th April, a concert will be held in the community Centre at 7.30pm, a celebration of culture and heritage. Admission Free.

The schools have been invited to take part. Barna NS will perform a selection of Irish Music, similar to our school Proclamation Day.  A note with more details about our school performance will be sent home in the coming days.

 

On Sunday, 24th April, a commemoration ceremony will take place, part of which involves burying a time-capsule. The pupils of each school will be invited to contribute some items of interest to this capsule -to be opened in 100 years!

The ceremony will begin in Nicker Church at 2pm. Families are invited to attend St Columba’s cemetery afterwards where the time capsule will be buried,  the proclamation read, the tri-colour raised and a wreath laid.
