Well Done and Comhghairdeas!

  • Well done to our Credit Union Quiz Teams who gave a great performance in February at the St Ailbe’s Schools Credit Union Quiz night.
  • Junior Team: Mark Ryan, Emma Kennedy, Bree O’ Dwyer, Ellie Ryan.
  • Senior Team: Kara Hayes, Ciara McNamara, David Curtin and Evan Horan.

  • The junior boy’s indoor Hurling team gave a chilling display at the Winter Indoor Hurling Blitz in Caherconlish. Well done boys!! Keep it up!

  • The 5th and 6th class boys soccer team gave an outstanding and exceptionally skilful display at the Primary 5-a-side FAI Soccer Blitz in Corbally last week. They came 2nd in their group but unfortunately only one team goes forward from each group to the next round – but our soccer boys can hold their heads up high with their superb performance!

  • Well done and thank you to everyone who helped to make our annual Grandparents’ Day very special as we celebrated Catholic Schools Week in February.

  • Finally, Congratulations to our 2nd Class pupils- Donnagh Ryan, Zach Lewis, Claytonblake Cavanagh, Gerard Nielon and Luke Breen who made their First Confession in Nicker Church  last week. Thank you to their teacher Ms Siobhan Ryan for preparing them for their sacrament and to Fr Burns for his help in the preparations and for the lovely celebration.

School Activities for March

  • Seachtain na Gaeilge is celebrated nationally 1-17 Márta 2016. Our motto in Barna NS this year is “Ma tá beagánín Gaeilge agat…labhair é!!” -if you have a little bit of Irish, speak it! The children will be encouraged to make a huge effort to speak Irish throughout the day in school – in the classroom, in the school yard, among their friends and at home too! Pupils will have lots of fun learning through Irish with planned activities such as Tráth na gCeist, Bingó, Drámaí beag trí Ghaeilge, Ceol agus Damhsa Tradisiúnta and more. Pupils will be awarded for their efforts and there will be a Gaeilgeoir prize for every class. Gaeilge Abú!!

  • Proclamation Day is Tuesday 15th March 2016. This is the day when every school in the country is invited to celebrate Proclamation Day. We invite parents, families and friends to share this day with us when we raise our National Flag and present and read the Proclamation. Pupils will have an opportunity to share projects and ideas as well as showcase their creative work e.g. Art, Music and Dancing. Our Proclamation Day will be celebrated from 12 o’clock until 2pm. All welcome.
  • Clothes Recycling Collection will be held in the school on Monday 11th Bags can be left into school/hall porch everyday between now and collection date. Please take some time to clear out your unwanted items and fill up the bags. Money raised from this collection will go towards paint costs for the new school.

  • Building Update. Great progress has been made in the new school. Painting is almost finished inside, the heating is on and the doors and floors are going in shortly. I’m thrilled to report that it all looks fantastic! Groundwork will commence next month, with percolation, tarmac yard, railing, gates etc… being installed. There is approximately 8 weeks work left on site.

  • Enrolments and Open Day. An open day for new enrolments will be held in the new school as soon as the build is complete. Please pass the news of our new school and open day around to any new families in the locality.
