School Newsletter – Jan 2019

Dear Parents,

We hope you all had a good Christmas and we wish you a very happy and healthy new year!

Please note the following items for this term:

Christmas Draw Thanks to all our families, staff and wider school community who did a terrific job in selling tickets for our Christmas Draw. We raised a fantastic €3,000!! This money is being used to buy 10 ipads as part of our Digital learning Development. We are delighted and so thankful for all your support. Pupils  in Barna NS will now have an ipad to share between 2 pupils at any given time for Digital Learning in their school!

Swimming Lessons will commence on Tuesday 29th January, in Sean Treacy’s Swimming Pool, Tipperary.  (1stclass to 6th class).  Cost per pupil is €50. This includes swimming lessons and bus.

Swimming Day is Tuesdays (Jan 29th, Feb 5th, Feb 12th, Feb 19th, Feb 26th and Mar 5th). School Track suits to be worn. Swimming hat and goggles are compulsory. Please ensure all swimming gear eg towel, wet bag, hair brush etc are kept together in a bag. Pupils come to school for 9am. Bus will leave school at 9.30am for lessons (10am- 10.45am) and return to school at 11.30am.

Full payment of €50 can be paid online before 29th Jan. You will receive a text directing you to follow the link for payment. You can choose to pay full amount in cash also. (send in with your child)

Alternatively, you can choose to pay in two cash instalments.

€25 per pupil to be paid before 29th Jan and balance €25 per pupil to be paid before Feb 12th.

  • When sending in money, please put in an envelope with child’s name for class teacher.

New PE Day is Tuesdays for all Classes: for the duration of the swimming. Pupils can wear their school  Tracksuits every Tuesday from 29th Jan – Mar 5th.

Grandparents’ Day:  We will celebrate Grandparents’ Day again this year as part of CatholicSchool’s week.This will be held in the school on Wednesday 3Oth January at 12.30pm. We look forward to celebrating Grandparents’ Day 2019.

Old Clothes Recycling:  You can send in bags of old clothes any time during the school year! We can store the bags and keep them for the next Clothes Collection in June. This is a great fund raiser for our school, so the more bags the better!!

Literacy Lift-Off: Pupils will engage in literacy development during this term. Reading books will be sent home each night with your child, Please support your child’s reading and we ask that the books are minded and returned to school again the next day.

Fruit Break: We have an additional fruit break at 10am each morning. Children are encouraged to bring in one fruit and one veg or two fruits each day. Rewards are available for pupils who make a BIG effort to eat more fruit and veg!

Operation Transformation 10 @ 10 Pupils will be taking part in the OT 10@10 during the next few weeks. The children love these fun activities and keeping fit and healthy!

Junior infants New Enrolments September 2019 : An Open Day will be held in the school on Friday 8th February at 2.00pm.

School Closures:

  • February Mid-Term Break:  Thursday 21st & Friday 22nd February.
  • St Patrick’s Day Bank Holiday: Monday 18th March.

Sacraments: 

The final two Family/School masses in preparation for the sacraments are:

  • Sunday Feb 3rd and Sunday 10th March
  • Confirmation Date: Thursday 4th April
  • First Holy Communion Date: Saturday 11th May
